More multi-event action
Medway will be back in the national sporting spotlight after being chosen to host the British Modern Tetrathlon championships in June 2010.
The multi-sport event - including fencing, swimming, shooting and running - will be staged at Medway Park on June 5 and 6.
The competition is used by Britain’s modern pentathletes as part of their preparations for international competitions. This year the women’s event was won by Olympic silver medallist Heather Fell, while the men’s title went to fellow Olympian Sam Weale.
Sue Hyde, national competitions manager for Pentathlon GB, said: “Bringing the national tetrathlon championships to Medway Park is the latest stage of our burgeoning partnership with Medway.
“We have forged a very successful relationship with Medway and, working together, we hope to develop the sport and identify promising athletes in the area who will go on to success in modern pentathlon.”
Medway has been working closely with Pentathlon GB for the past two years, and in April 2010 Medway Park will host the Modern Pentathlon World Cup, the first world sporting event to be staged in Medway.
